Excellent and exciting news for all the Eagles’ faithful believers and followers.
Two complete seasons were not enough to affect Tim Tebow’s game, as he showed last Sunday Aug. 15th that the talent and skills are still there and he is willing to fight against Matt Barkley for a spot as Philadelphia Eagles’ third quarterback.
Tebow’s Philly Debut
The Eagles were already up 26-10 in last Sunday’s Colts vs Eagles pre season game, when the crowd began cheering in a loud standing ovation, at the precise moment Tim Tebow entered the game.
Not foolish at all, Tebow responded to the crowd throwing 69 yards and adding 15 on the ground. He played the majority of the second half, completing 6 of his 12 passes and led the Eagles to a field-goal attempt on his first drive.
Tebow added a seven-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter of the Philadelphia Eagles’ 36-10 win over the Indianapolis Colts. However, he did show some rust after been sacked in three occasions for 28 yards. Neither, Matt Barkley nor Mark Sanchez went down in the game.
Despite that strong first drive, Tebow displayed the same difficulties with protection reads that plagued him in previous stops. The Eagles punted the ball three times on his drives.
Battle for a Spot
Tebow hadn’t played since the 2013 preseason with New England until the Eagles signed him to compete with Matt Barkley for the No. 3 spot behind Sam Bradford and Mark Sanchez. However, his performance delivered a lot of excitement and enthusiasm to Eagles fans.
Of course, Tebow didn’t come in later until midway through the third quarter, after they had already cycled through Mark Sanchez and Matt Barkley. This makes quite clear that Barkley is ahead, but Tebow showed enough flashes of talent that he’s not completely out of the race.
The battle is going to be fierce and closed. Barkley threw for 192 yards and completed 12 of 20 passes. While he tossed an interception, it came on a tipped pass at the line of scrimmage. Barkley looked far more comfortable in the pocket on Sunday than he did at any point as a rookie.
