This NFL preseason has struck mayor blows pretty much to all of the teams in the league
Injuries, legal problems, violence and substance abuse have been the main dish for most of the sports journalists and media.
Some teams have been hurt worse than others, and for Pittsburgh Steelers, it has not been easy. Last Thursday August 27th, they received another powerful tackle as their wide receiver Martavis Bryant was suspended for the first four games of the 2015 season after violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy. Apparently the suspension is for marijuana use.
Bryant’s four game suspension adds to starting running back Le’Veon Bell who will miss season opener game against the New England Patriots on Sept. 10, when he will be serving the first game of his two-game ban stemming from an August 2014 arrest on DUI and marijuana possession charges.
Steelers won’t be able to count with center Maurkice Pouncey either, who was injured in a preseason win over the Packers on Aug. 23rd. Pouncey is out indefinitely after undergoing ankle surgery this week.
Appeal Option Lost
Pittsburgh’s road to the starting season looks pretty bumpy, even more so now that they lost the appeal, which was there slight chance to fix things a bit. Bryant was hoping his appeal, but a few minutes ago the news reported his plea was lost. So it’s confirmed that the fourth-round selection in the 2014 draft out of Clemson will miss the Steelers first four games of the season. Pittsburgh opens up at New England before hosting the 49ers in Week 2. He would also miss a Week 3 game at St. Louis and a Thursday night home game against the Ravens in Week 4.
Even though Martavis Bryant didn’t play a complete season his rookie year in 2014, he showed great talent and skill catching 26 receptions for 549 receiving yards and eight touchdowns. Bryant also had the longest catch of the 2014 season, a 94-yarder against the Bengals in Week 14. o this is a true loss for the Steelers.
Right at the Corner
With NFL season about to begin, the Steelers have it pretty rough in the first games.
