UFC was rocked last week with the news that Jon “Bones” Jones was in trouble again. The light heavyweight champion was involved in an alleged hit an run that could cost him more than his belt. For it was his light heavyweight belt the first thing he lost following the incident. The reports states the “Bones” (as he is known) ran a red light and hit a car with a pregnant woman inside. They also state that he fled the scene only to come back to retrieve cash from inside the rental car he was driving and then fled the scene again.  The woman suffered a broken arm and had to be taken to a nearby hospital. Jones has been an incredible force to be reckoned inside the UFC and is considered one of the best pound by pound champions to have stepped inside the octagon. Let’s take a look at this troubled athlete’s history.

Undisputed Light Heavyweight Champion

mma fighterWhen Jon Jones came into the UFC, his presence was felt immediately. His debut came at UFC 87 on August 9, 2008 beating Andre Gusmão by decision. From that point forward, a string of victories brought a big opportunity knocking at his door. Training partner Rashad Evans injured his knee which got him out if the main card of UFC 128. Jones was offered a shot at the title fighting against the current champion at the time, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.  Jon defeated Rua by way of TKO during the 3rd round to become the youngest UFC champion in history, with only 23 years of age. Just with that victory he wrote his name in the history books, but Jones was not finished there. He had defended his title for a record 8 times before being stripped of his belt. After his last fight against Daniel Cormier, it was know that he failed a drug test for cocaine 1 month prior to the match. A sad story developing around a great fighter but also around a fellow citizen and a father of 3. Sportsbooks and agents will follow this story as it continues to unfold.
